Society has put so much value on our worth on what we are doing rather than simply being. Please understand that being productive is a wonderful thing. With a value on what people are doing rather than being, and we are less satisfaction with quality of their life than in any other time in history. People start to place a value on how busy there are and almost wear it like a badge or like it is an honor and brag about it. If someone is busy then they are “doing good’ is the impression that society would like for us to believe.
“I am a human being, not a human doing. Don’t equate your self-worth with how well you do things in life. You aren’t what you do. If you are what you do, then when you don’t…you aren’t.” ~Dr. Wayne Dyer
We all have times our life that we have a lot going on, but do we balance it with time to just be? To my understanding a joyful life is not one of being stressed and overly busy. We get stuck in patters of accomplishing the to do list and it just keeps growing. We start to just do other things to stay in the doing mode. It is a cycle that we can find ourself in very quickly.
What brings you into the being? Two quick ways to get into being is observation and connecting. This will be different from person to person but some ideas for connecting are spending time in nature, time with friends or family and prayer and mediation. Simply bringing awareness to the present moment is another great way to start simply being.
Take time each day just to simply be and not do, see what happens to your overall satisfaction and joy. Their will always be more to do, but you one have chance to be in the present.
Remember that you are a human “being” not a human “doing”.
